Extortion can take many kinds, however one definition suits the latest settlement at Northwestern. Based on Black’s Regulation Dictionary, extortion consists of:

Northwestern president Michael Schill, who authorized the settlement, holds a regulation diploma from Yale College, so he certainly is aware of the definition of extortion. Why did he and different NWU directors undergo a shameful shakedown?

Schill and his administrative sidekicks don’t have the braveness to name the cops on disruptive protesters or self-discipline college students who promote antisemitism. They aren’t good sufficient to appreciate that their appeasement will encourage future college students to disrupt campus life if the college fails to abide by college students’ ever-changing political calls for. Nor are they good sufficient to appreciate that their cowardice will demoralize Jewish college students and alienate the college’s donors.
Lastly, President Schill and his co-appeasers don’t have any coronary heart. They apparently don’t care that they’ve diminished the college’s tutorial freedom by permitting disgruntled college students to dictate the hiring of college members primarily based on ethnicity.
Northwestern hasn’t seen the final of the anti-Israel protesters. They’ll be again. Subsequent time these antisemitic morons could demand that the college fireplace all its Jewish school members. What would President Schill, who’s Jewish, say to that?
